Andrew & Katies Camper Van

Building your very own home is a dream for most of us in this niche market. Andrew and Katie really went above and beyond with their camper van build. I have not seen anything this specific in some time!

Tiny Home Videos

This is part one of an awesome tree house being built a few miles outside of Seward, Alaska. As you can see from this video, the project is still underway. But, for someone who has minimal building experience, Trevor has done an amazing job with this tiny home. Later in the season I hope to bring you a follow up video detailing what this young couple does about electricity, water, sewage, interior decor and insights learned from the process. These two are living a life that almost everyone watching this video dreams about. Living in Alaska in their very own tiny house…all for around $35K!

This project is still a work in progress. I plan to meet up with Trevor & Jane near the end of the summer and do a “finsihed” tour video. This project goes to show that if you have some foresight and willing to put the work in,  you can do amazing things!

I met this awesome nomadic couple while sitting at a bar in Seward, Alaska. They are currently spending their Summer in the Great White North. They got this rig up and running, including purchase price, for $9500. That is less than most people pay for rent in a year. Make it happen people!

For many of those on the site, finding a mobile income is the biggest hinderance to hitting the road. However, if you think you have what it takes, maybe travel nursing may be right for you. I have spoken with a few travel nurses now and they all agree. While the work may be hard, it is well worth the pay and freedom you get on the other end!

We continue the building process of the shipping container build for Jack. In this video Lee & Jack install a wood framed door on their conex build. Lee shares some of the tips and tricks he learned during the build. Also, we get some more insights on Jack.

Seeing the synergy between these two is amazing to behold. I feel very lucky to be invited into this home build and learn from these two men. I am certain they have more stories to tell along the way. I will do my best to capture what it is like building this amazing home.

This 280 Sq Ft beauty was the first real tiny home we filmed for the new channel. After spending 2+ years traveling and living in a Class A motorhome, we really noticed the build quality of tiny homes. To this day, this tiny house is one of our favorite designs.

    Uncharted Tiny Homes Tour Video

To be honest, this was our first real tiny home we had ever encountered. I honestly did not expect much of a difference from a typical RV to this home regarding build quality. I must say, I was extremely wrong. This home felt as though it would last for many years to come while some RV’s feel as though they will fall apart in no less than 20 years. Granted, most modern day RVs are more flexible and suited for the bounciness of the roads. It is almost as if your home is experiencing an earthquake every time to move. But, we shall hear back from those currently living and traveling in their own tiny home.

To this day, this is our favorite tiny home design. The workmanship combined with a well thought out design has proven to be very effective with this build. When we build our own tiny home we will certainly take what we have learned from this tour and implement it into our project.

    Bob's Tinyhome Tour Video

After filming this video I told the creator and owner of Extraordinary Structures that this was our favorite build ever. He just smiled and mentioned that we probably told that to every builder we meet…he was wrong. If/When we build our own tinyhome we are certainly going to take ideas from this build. If this build was more suited for full time travel we would be saving our pennies right now to purchase it.

While exploring Texas we had the opportunity to visit Xcalibur manufacturing. A shipping container home has always been a passion of mine. There have been many hours of driving when I plan a shipping container build in my head. My current idea is to have a 45ft container, much like this one, with a 20ft container stacked on top. The upper area would be the bedroom that leads out to the balcony that the lower 45ft container would provide. However, dreams and money are two different things.

    Bob's Tinyhome Tour Video

While it is entirely possible for someone to live in this full time, it is simplistic in its execution of such matters. Be mindful that this is not a criticism, this build is intended for sparse use. For many who purchase homes like this build, they will place it in a remote location for hunting our outdoor recreation. This is why Xcalibur includes steel shutters as well as a cross door lock. With an extra 5k or so this could be lived in comfortably by anyone. Also, one negative for us in general, it would be a semi permanent placement.

    RV Tour Videos

We had planned on purchasing a Toy Hauler until we spent all day touring them. It would great to turn this back area into a workout room/office but it would take a ton of Money and time to make this happen. If we found a great deal on one we would not pass it up, but, if we had the choice, a 5th wheel with a office already built in would be our pick.

      Impact RV Tour

Getting a moveable home built for 55k from the factory is an amazing opportunity for most. While we do not suggest anyone buying completely new from the dealership, this is one heck of a deal. We are certainly going to keep our eyes open for a used version of this 5th wheel once we decide to make the switch.

Factoring the build quality and liveability, this rig would be perfect for us. We began RV life traveling in our Class A motorhome. While Atlas, our beloved Class A, has held up well, we believe a 5th wheel would suit us better. We had been set on pursuing the toy hauler version of a 5th wheel until we stumbled upon this beauty. We can see ourselves spending my secluded nights out in the boonies with this rig.

      Our Dream RV Tour Video

Our main priority when choosing our next home on wheels will be the ability to dry camp. This includes holding tank size, toughness of the rig to make it to remote places and insulation from the environment. Of course, there are many other factors when choosing for us, but those three are paramount. But, at this point in time, this rig is our number 1 dream RV.

Texzen Tiny Homes is based out of Austin Texas. For those who many not know, a common motto in this town is “keep Austin weird”. During my time in Austin I did not take that as keep Austin and odd town. The mindset I took from Austin was more of a “keep innovation alive in Austin”. Open mindedness was plastered all over this wonderful city and the open mindedness spread to the idea of tiny homes as well. As the city grows, so does the cost of living and rent. A common middle ground seems to lie with alternative living. As with most cities, there is currently a battle over the legality to move a tiny home on wheels into a backyard and live in it.

      Texzen Tiny Home Tour

The Texzen Tiny Home model we toured is something we could live in, that is without a doubt. The one design consideration we have not found in any tiny home we have toured is an office. All designs, small and big, all seem to combine the dining table with the space to get some work done. This is not a huge deal, but, in our own RV, that is the one aspect I would LOVE to change.
